Last week your phone offered to write a sympathy note for you. It gave three options, each one warm enough. You looked at them longer than you'd like to admit.
The tools keep getting better at sounding like us. A birthday text, a toast, a "thinking of you." Any of it can be drafted in seconds now, and most of it is fine. That's what bothers you. Fine is starting to take the place of true. You can feel what's missing. When did you last sit in a room where people looked at each other and said true things? Where nobody was performing, and nobody was glancing at a screen under the table?
You've thought about gathering the women in your town. You can picture them already: the neighbor whose dogs come down your driveway every morning, the mom you always end up talking with at pickup, the friend who moved here two years ago and still hasn't found her people. Then the doubts arrive. Who are you to host? What if three people come? What if it's awkward and they talk about it afterward? So it stays an idea for next season, after one more book.
Come hang with me first!
For 75 minutes we'll gather together virtually. You'll feel what it's like when a room is held well: clear agreements, a host who names her role, and room for everyone in it.
✦ We 'll open together
✦ I share a short reflection on counterfeit connection and what real presence asks of us right now.
✦ We do some connection activities with the other women in the room.
✦ We close together
✦ Afterward, stay ten minutes if you want to hear about CircleCraft, my 5-week training for women ready to host their own first circle by the winter solstice.
I've spent years gathering women in circles, on Zoom and in my living room (now in the milk barn on my farm), and teaching other women to hold their own through Circle Craft, a women circle facilitation training.
Here's what all of it has taught me: people are hungry to be met, and someone has to send the invitation.
✦ You feel the pull to bring people together where you live, and you've been putting it off
✦ You have something to offer: a home with a long table, land, time, a voice people in your town listen to
✦ You're tired of connection that looks real and leaves you hungry
✦ You want to be in a room with other women who feel this too
Come sit with the women who already are.
